Drop

June 2004

"And if we did bring about patterns, they were patterns which we had not measured-furthermore, which we didn’t wish to emphasize. We simply wished to permit them to exist."

-John Cage

The primary impulse behind this work was to allow an indeterminate spatial experience to emerge from a completely banal construct: the ubiquitous 'drop ceiling'. A single new three-dimensional asymmetrical unit was repeated and set in the common 'drop ceiling' framework. Each repeated unit contained four simple variables arranged in series and by chance throughout the duration of the exhibit.
